  1. Reading this piece on the concern of technology was very timely to me as I am writing a book on observation and critical thinking. Today I was working on a chapter that deals with technology. There are incredible advances that have come from technology many that are for the good of mankind, but like everything there are the downsides when technology is used for nefarious purposes. The example of using drones is incredibly scary when used for the wrong purposes, as are cyber attacks that could take down our supply chain or electric grid. One of our greatest problems from a national security standpoint is keeping ahead of the curve and having counter measures in place to defend against the misuse of technology.

One major concerns I have with our love affair with technology be it addictive text messaging on cell phones excluding real interpersonal interaction or an obsession with social media like Face Book by posting and following trivia is that we are ignoring the most incredible mechanism in the universe, the human brain.

Much of the new research and findings about the brain have come from technological advances and we need to begin training our brains to use a vast untapped potential that science is just beginning to understand. Discoveries like neuro plasticity have completely changed the field of neuro science and offer great promise as how we might improve the human brain.

    • John,
Thanks for the post. There is no doubt that technology advances create the ultimate double-edge sword. We can use technology for good and analyze the potential for bad. There is not doubt that we are in uncharted waters on this but that does not mean we cannot have important discussions now while new trends and technologies are rolling out.

I agree with your post and believe that the concept of singularity can push the mind further then ever before. Please let the ARDirt community know when your chapter is released. I think we would all be interested to read it. warm regards….
